West Wittering

Took a trip to West Wittering on Sunday and made the most of the beautiful weather ♥

We brought along my friend Josh's dog, the lovely Ruby Spoodles to join in the fun! Pretty much the cutest dog ever.

Mum's 50th

Last week, my beautiful mum turned 50 years young ♥

My dad arranged a surprise party for her on the Saturday night and to make sure she didn't have to lift a finger to get ready, I took her out for the day. We went over to Wickham, which is such a pretty little place, made even better by crisp blue skies.

We went to
Lilly's for lunch. The decor for this place makes me want to just live there and the food's pretty darn yummy too..

After lunch we went for a rummage round The Chesapeake Mill, which is filled with vintage goodies. Unfortunately for us, but more fortunate for my bank balance, there weren't any treasures on this trip. It's definitely worth a trip though, and some of the pop up shops change around to bring in new items :)

Afterwards, it was still too early to head back so we went to
Stansted for a seriously good cream tea. I've never been there before and it was beautiful. They've also extended the cafe through to the greenhouse, which so pretty on a sunny day - check out the photo of my Mum above ♥

Recommend a visit to all of these places!

Pancakes Galore

Well last night was a pancake extravaganza!

For savoury, we had:
Chorizo
Mozarella
Chicken
Cheddar
Caesar dressing (sounds bizarre and I was dubious about this choice but it was actually quite good!)

For sweet:
Lemon
Sugar
White and milk choc chips
Peanut butter

Have to say, Josh's creation of peanut butter and white choc chips was a revelation. I recommend this to all peanut butter lovers, just be warned that you might pass out from deliciousness.

A fun and stupidly filling night ♥

I Never Knew I Was A Techno Fan...

Last night I went to see The Wombats with Caketin and Ve. We booked the tickets ages ago and nearly forgot when it was ...but I'm so glad we didn't miss it!

They really were amazing live, playing all my favourite songs with a healthy amount of banter in between. Nothing worse than a band who can't have a laugh with their audience (..I'm looking at you Fall Out Boy). Favourites included 1996, Techno Fan and Jump Into The Fog ♥

Also managed to see an epic amount of dancing from other fans, both hilarious and scary! Was a lot of fun though, despite my stupidly tired Monday self :)

In other news, it's Pancake Day! I'm not one for the religious elements of this and won't be giving up anything for Lent, but I do like pancakes...

Cake Pops

I made cake pops!

In all honesty, I'm surprised at how easy it was and how well they turned out. I've had some baking disasters recently, so I wasn't holding my breath!

I used a my standard victoria sponge recipe and then followed the cake pop instructions from Elsie's blog. For the frosting that gets mixed into the broken up cake, I used one 200g pack of light cream cheese and added icing sugar until I got it to the consistency that looked right! It was a rather pleasant feeling, smushing it all together...

The candy melts were from Hobbycraft for £2.99. I chose white because I wanted to decorate with pretty things, but they have a vast array of colours to choose from. You will need a whole bag for this and I recommend letting it cool a little after it comes out of the microwave, so that your cake pops don't fall off! I also bought the sticks in Hobbycraft for around £3 for a pack of 20. The mixture made around 30 cake pops, so I have a few left over and some that didn't quite make it!

They dry very quickly which was great, as I had visions of melted candy dripping EVERYWHERE, but I stuck them in a block of that flower arranging, oasis stuff, which I also managed to pick up from Hobbycraft for just over £1.

Currently storing mine in the fridge, ready for a party on Saturday. Due to the candy coating, word on the interweb was that this would keep them fresh. Lots also recommend tying them in food bags or freezing them before putting the coating on.

Looking forward to setting them up at the party and seeing what people think!

Things I've Pinned

I wonder what life was like before Pinterest?

I possibly did more work. Realistically, I did not.

But here are a few lovelies I have recently pinned... join me as I ooh, aah and vow to make/buy/smooch.

Got very carried away pinning
Brian Andreas quotes. Such lovely words ♥

This last picture is absolutely beautiful. Check out more of Norman Duenas' art
here..I'm pretty much in love with all of it.

Instagram + Filters

I'm a massive Instagram addict and have recently been playing with double and triple filters. I love the varying imperfections it can give, and how it can completely change a photo... simple isn't always better ;)

Here a few I've played around with. Some were taken on a random trip to Port Solent and the others are from Know Your Exit's band practice - a band comprising of my brother and 2 very good friends. I'll post a link to their music once they've managed to get it up on the interweb!

New Purchases

Went to Chichester with my Mum on Sunday. We haven't been out of a mother/daughter day in a really long time so it was really good to catch up and look at pretty things. Don't think I've been shopping at the weekend really since just after Christmas; I was shocked at how quiet it was!

Finally used my Cath Kidston Christmas vouchers to buy a new bag for work. Got it in the sale for £30 (stupidly overpriced still but oh so lovely). I also bought a new red hat in the Accessorize sale, to replace the red beret I'd been using, which never really sat quite right! It's a total Elizabethtown thing. I love a red hat.

Also bought some flowery PJ's and a new phone cover..it was a successful and frivolous trip!

Outfit of the Day - Saturday

Got massively over excited in a charity shop last week. I found 2 brand new dresses and a vintage tan clutch that were pretty much perfect! The first dress was a John Rocha, white flouncy thing that fits like a dream and makes me feel like I should be carrying a milk pail whilst wandering around my farm...obviously.

Paired it with my very favourite mustard cardigan from Next and a red paisley scarf I found in a charity shop last year. And of course boots...always boots. Not the best pic but you get the idea!

Wore it out to lunch at Porters with my friends. It was a downright lovely Saturday ♥

Pretty Things

Popped into Asda the other day and got caught up in an array of nautical colours and flowers! The anchor top (best thing ever for this sundaypirate) was £16 and the other 2 were £6 each, which is an absolute bargain! They're pretty lightweight and perfect for summer but under a cardie and paired with a scarf, these bad boys will be getting worn pretty soon!

Costume

I always love a costume...then immediately hate the ridiculous task I have given myself! But this is what I came up with for New Year..I am a huge Batman nerd, so this was pretty fitting.

I also made a Link costume for my friend. It took hours but he seemed pretty happy with it :) Although possibly more excited about his long johns...

Mini Pecan Pies

My mum and I baked together the other day for the first time in a very long while :) She had recently got a recipe from her friend for mini pecan pies. It's originally from The Pampered Chef but thought I would type it up for you guys. They are seriously easy to make and absolutely delicious!

Ingredients:

Tart Shells
115g butter or margarine softened
100g medium fat soft cheese
140g plain flour

Filling

25g butter or margarine
175g light soft brown sugar
1 egg
1tsp vanilla essence
115g pecans chopped
Icing sugar (for dusting, optional)

I managed to remember to take some pics of the process this time, don't know if this helps!

Preheat the oven to 180C . For the mini cases, beat butter and soft cheese in a bowl until smooth. Add flour and mix to form a soft dough. This can take some upper arm strength (I have none) but does get there eventually!

Shape the dough into small balls about the size of a malteser. Place balls of the dough into a mini muffin pan.

Using your finger, press dough in the middle and push up the sides to make little cases.

For the filling, microwave the butter for a few seconds until melted. Stir in the brown sugar, egg and vanilla essence to create deliciousness!

Add the chopped pecans and stir.

Spoon the filling into each of the mini pie cases.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until light golden brown. Leave to cool in the pan for about 3 minutes and then transfer to a cooling rack.

The filling turns a bit of a strange colour so you might want to dust them with icing sugar. We were too keen to try these bad boys, so didn't hang around! They were pretty damn awesome and the best thing was the minimal amount of effort and time for something so tasty!

Enjoy!

A Sunday Jaunt

My friends and I have recently taken a fancy to the traditional Sunday walk. I used to go for walks a lot with my family when I lived at home. It was always good to get a bit of fresh air and work up an appetite for a Sunday Roast!

Personally, I far prefer them in the colder weather. Give me an icy cold, sunny day and I'm there, wrapped up in abundance :)

Here are a few photos on the old Instagram from a recent walk along the Meon Valley. Very pretty, we had woodland, river, beach, pumpkin patch and even a carnvial when we got back to the village...blissful.
